WHAT IS IT: Basic research tool (contains expert commentary) for people involved in the administration of collective agreements. This resource is well cross-referenced to Labour Arbitration Cases.

WHAT IS IT: Labour Arbitration Cases is a national case reporter – a collection of the full text of significant arbitration decisions/awards (or cases) across Canada, in print and online.

SEARCHING LABOURSOURCE
- In the search box at top, you can type a keyword search: bullying, absenteeism, etc.
- Click Search. You will retrieve a list of awards/decisions (cases).
- Try the Advanced search as well (a nice menu search).
CITING REFERENCES
Be sure to check for icons that indicate the status of your case. For example, when viewing the full-text of a case, you can click the Citing References button to see cases that have cited your case and the treatment it received.

- Here is a quick guide to understanding labour arbitration case citations, helpful for when you are searching for relevant cases:
Example “B.C.G.E.U. v. Interior Roads Ltd., (2003), 123 L.A.C. (4th) 171 (Jackson)”
- B.C.G.E.U. v. Interior Roads Ltd is the name of the case
- (2003) is the year the decision was issued
- 123 L.A.C. (4th) is the title volume and edition the case is reported in, in Labour Arbitration Cases (L.A.C.)
- 171 is the page number
- (Jackson) is the arbitrator’s surname
In the written body of your submission, refer to a case in this manner: “As the Arbitrator ruled in B.C.G.E.U. v. Interior Roads Ltd., (2003), the principle of …..”
